Alexandra Buchanan Architecture

Alexandra Buchanan Architecture, or ABA, is an architecture and interior design practice founded in 2011 with studios in Brisbane, Melbourne and Daylesford. The practice is strongly focused on tailored residential work, including new homes, alterations and interiors, while drawing on experience across a wider range of project types. Each project is developed around its site, climate and the way the client wants to live rather than a fixed house style.

Early design considers household patterns, privacy, light, landscape and future needs before spatial and architectural options are tested. Passive environmental strategies are part of this thinking, bringing orientation, shading, ventilation, thermal comfort and material choices into the design process from the beginning.

The practice can carry projects through architectural design, interiors, design development and construction documentation. Keeping architecture and interiors within the same studio helps external form, room planning, joinery, materials and detail remain coherent. A team in the 11–50 employee range provides capacity for multiple disciplines and for collaboration between projects in different locations.

ABA’s Brisbane studio is in Fortitude Valley, with additional studios in Carlton and Daylesford.
