About Teusner & Co

Teusner & Co was established in 1932 by the late Berthold Herbert Teusner. Bert completed his Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Adelaide in 1931, followed by a year of practical training, known as “Articles”, with the Adelaide legal firm of Gun & Gun. Bert then returned to Tanunda to establish the legal firm of Gun & Teusner in 1932. To assist with fitting out the new Tanunda office, Gun & Gun presented Bert with an office typewriter, which continued in use for 30 years. The typewriter remains at the current office as a memento. In addition to providing legal services to clients, Bert was well known by the local community through his involvement on many committees and his role as Chairman of the District Council of Tanunda. In 1944 Bert was approached to stand for the South Australian Parliament as the local Liberal & Country League candidate following the sudden car accident death of the previous candidate. A convincing win in the Angas by-election saw Bert enter Parliament in June of that year. Bert went on to serve on various parliamentary committees and as Speaker of the House of Assembly until his retirement in 1970.
