Studio Heim

Studio Heim builds its work on the combination of local knowledge, design judgement and delivery capability. Studio Heim adopted its current brand in 2022 and continues Rob Henry’s long Canberra residential practice. Its work focuses on human scale, everyday life and environmental response, using section, courtyards, material and light to make spaces that are playful yet liveable.

The practice handles new houses and alterations centred on human scale, social and environmental sustainability and spatial richness. Each commission begins with a clear problem frame before spatial, environmental, approval and construction questions are brought into the same decision cycle. The brand now collaborates with DNA Architects, with appointments held at DNA’s Braddon office, giving the small studio’s design continuity the support of a broader team.

Studio Heim suits clients who value a transparent process and want to understand trade-offs before making commitments. Complex issues are divided into discussable stages, with visual material, written information and regular collaboration building shared understanding. Architectural value is considered through long-term comfort, adaptability, maintenance and sense of place, not simply appearance on completion. Each project can therefore respond to its location, users and available construction resources.
